| 1st Generation: | WILLIAM LEWIS, Sr., born in France around 1660 and returned to Wales in 1687, where he married Mary McClelland (of Scotland) in 1688 and settled in Northern Ireland. They had three sons, William Lewis, Jr., John Lewis, and Andrew Lewis, all who moved their families to the New World in the 1700s, settling in North Carolina and Virginia. William Lewis, Sr. established a new law practice in Northern Ireland, where he lived out the remainder of his life, dying in 1720.

| 2nd Generation: | WILLIAM LEWIS, Jr., born in Northern Ireland around 1690 and he died in North Carolina in 1755. William Lewis, Jr. brought his family (wife's name unknown) to the Black River area of North Carolina in 1736 (New Hanover County - now Pender County). His five children were all born in Northern Ireland: James (b. 1723), Mary (b. 1724), Jane (b. 1726), Jacob (b. 1728), and William III (b. 1730). |
| 3rd Generation: | WILLIAM LEWIS, III, born in Northern Ireland around 1730, died Hanover County, NC (now Duplin County) in 1800, m. married in 1748 (wife's name unknown) and they had six sons: William, Thomas, Jacob, Benjamin, John, and Frederick. William Lewis III was a farmer and produced turpentine and tar. He was also a surveyor and, with his brother Jacob, laid out a road from North Central New Hanover County to the Northwest Cape Fear River. He lived all his life in Northern New Hanover County.
